Archangel Michael\'s 100th Anniversary


Archangel Michael Orthodox Church (OCA) in Burbank is celebrating its 100th anniversary with special events from June 2009 to June 2010.

The first event is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, from 1:30 - 4:30 pm. The theme is a "Celebration of the Russian Legacy within the Orthodox Church in North America."

Featured Speaker: Professor Robert Bird
Author, Professor in the Department  of Slavic Languages and Literatures
and in the Divinity School at the University of Chicago

There will also be a discussion of Russian Liturgical Music by Gregory Ealy
of Holy Trinity Cathedral (OCA), Chicago

Parallel Children’s Activities in the church hall, including ethnic dances,
music, and fun projects

$10 donation per adult, children are free
Refreshments provided in the hall
All welcome for Vespers at 5:00

2009 Symposium - Future of Orthodoxy in America


Mark your calendars!


Synergy's annual Symposium will take place Saturday, October 17 at
St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Cicero, IL.

Our topic is "The Future of Orthodoxy in America." Our speakers will
be Fr. Stanley Harakas, Emeritus Professor of Orthodox Theology at Holy
Cross Seminary; and Fr. Deacon Nicholas Belcher, Dean of Students at
Holy Cross and Assistant Director of the Office of Vocation and
Ministry.

2009 Sunday of Orthodoxy Vespers

The 2009 Sunday of Orthodoxy Vespers were hosted by  St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Libertyville, in their lovely new church. The homilist His Grace Bishop PETER of Cleveland, Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, was the homilist.



Pan-Orthodox Christian Sanctity of Life Prayer Service and Presentation

The first pan-Orthodox Sanctity of Life prayer service was held on Sunday, January 25, hosted by St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Cicero. Several local hierarchs were in attendance: Metropolitan Iakovos and Bishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, and Archbishop Nicolae of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese in America and Canada. Nikolia Rallis, a Northwestern University senior and president of Northwestern Students for Life, daughter of Fr. John Rallis, gave a presentation on Orthodox youth and the pro-life movement.
